To me data exchange;
a)Between sister sites:-To achieve this I believe we need to ensure that the sister sites have a minimum number of similar configurations/fields for recording specimens despite the differences in the LIMS Systems and ensure that the different LIMS systems at all sites can accept a specific export format i.e (.txt, .csv, etc) with specific fields of interest as maybe agreed upon, and define customised export and import formats that will work across. By doing this it makes it easy to send and reicieve (files possibly by mail/dropbox) from all member sites with ease and make use of the data exchanged without necessarily needing to set-up a web platform for the sister sites.
NB: (1) Makerere University and Baylor-Uganda have this Kind of set-up working.
(2) I also remember prior to the start of recruiting participant (CAfGEN) we designed a list of major fields to use while accessioning. Was this fully embraced by all the sites?
b)Between H3Africa sites and the outside world:-We need to determine what level of specimens details and or info about a given site’s activities can we provide for public consumption and ensure that every H3Africa site provides that specific info to the designated portal admin on regular basis for updating.
c)From H3Africa sites to DBAC:- As for the DBAC, am assuming it already knows what specific information it will be needing from the H3Africa sites and that such details are currently being captured by these sites. I would think that the BDAC communicates what this information is, as setting up the web form will be based on this to enable reception of these details from the respective sites.
